Öz

Objectives: The purpose of this study was tocompare the different types of microorganismaccumulation of polymethylmetacrilate (PMMA)and cobalt chrome (Co-Cr) denture base.Materials and Methods: Disks were preparedat 10 mm diameter and 1.5 mm thickness with heatcured PMMA and CO-Cr alloy (n=10). Candidaalbicansand Staphylococcus epidermidismicroorganisms were investigated in this study.Acrylic resin and metal alloy specimens were keptin microorganism cultures including 5 10colonyfor ml, for 48 hours at 37ºC. After 48 hours thespecimens that were contaminated with microorganisms, were taken off from the tubes andthe microorganisms which were loosely attractedwere removed Specimens were inocubated at 37°Cfor 1 day and colonies were calculated afterinocubation. Statistical analyses were done withKolmogorovSmirnov Z Test and one-wayANOVA (=0.05).Results: Candida albicans colony calculationwere between, 224342 col/ml for acrylicspecimens and 110–176 col/ml for Co-Cr metalalloys.Staphlococcus epidermidiscolonycalculation were between 176–274 col/ml foracrylic specimens and 70-144 col/ml for Co-Crmetal alloys. According the results of the statisticalevaluation, Candida albicans were accumulatedboth acrylic and Co-Cr metal alloys’ test groupspsand this difference was found statisticallysignificant. (=0.05).Conclusion:It should be considered thatcomplete dentures with metal base could be animportant treatment alternative for treatingedentulous patients.Sonuç: Tam dişsiz hastaların tedavisinde, metalkaideli tam protezlerin önemli bir tedavi seçeneğiolabileceği göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır.

Farklı kaide materyallerine mikrobiyal tutunmanın değerlendirilmesi

Öz

ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the different types of  microorganism accumulation of polymethylmetacrilate (PMMA) and cobalt chrome (Co-Cr) denture base.

Materials and Methods: Disks were prepared at 10 mm diameter and 1.5 mm thickness with heat cured PMMA and CO-Cr alloy (n=10). Candida albicans and Staphylococcus epidermidis microorganisms were investigated in this study. Acrylic resin and metal alloy specimens were kept in microorganism cultures including 5´ 10-6 colony for ml, for 48 hours at 37ºC. After 48 hours the specimens that were contaminated with microorganisms, were taken off from the tubes and the microorganisms which were loosely attracted were removed Specimens were inocubated at 37°C for 1 day and colonies were calculated after inocubation. Statistical analyses were done with Kolmogorov- Smirnov Z Test and one-way ANOVA (a=0.05).

Results: Candida albicans colony calculation were between, 224- 342 col/ml for acrylic specimens and 110–176 col/ml for Co-Cr metal alloys. Staphlococcus epidermidis colony calculation were between 176–274 col/ml for acrylic specimens and 70-144 col/ml for Co-Cr metal alloys. According the results of the statistical evaluation, Candida albicans were accumulated both acrylic and Co-Cr metal alloys’ test groupsps and this difference was found statistically significant. (a=0.05).

Conclusion: It should be considered that complete dentures with metal base could be an important treatment alternative for treating edentulous patients.

Cumhuriyet Dental Journal (Cumhuriyet Dent J, CDJ) is the official publication of Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry. CDJ is an international journal dedicated to the latest advancement of dentistry. The aim of this journal is to provide a platform for scientists and academicians all over the world to promote, share, and discuss various new issues and developments in different areas of dentistry. First issue of the Journal of Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry was published in 1998. In 2010, journal's name was changed as Cumhuriyet Dental Journal. Journal’s publication language is English.


CDJ accepts articles in English. Submitting a paper to CDJ is free of charges. In addition, CDJ has not have article processing charges.
