Prevalence of Third Molar Agenesis in the Turkish Subpopulation

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türk subpopülasyonunda geniş bir yaş aralığında üçüncü molar (3M) agenezi prevalansını ve dağılımını, klinik değerlendirme ile araştırmaktır.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Yaşları 15 ile 83 arasında değişen, toplam 1479 hastanın (905 kadın, 574 erkek) klinik muayene ve radyografik değerlendirmeleri yapıldı. Hastaların cinsiyet ve yaş bilgileri, 3M agenezi varlığı/yokluğu, agenezi sayısı, çene lokalizasyonları (maksilla/mandibula) ve ilgili diş numarası not edildi. Veriler ki-kare testi kullanılarak analiz edildi (p<0.05).
Bulgular: Bir veya daha fazla 3M agenezi prevelansı %25.3 (374 kişi) olarak bulundu. 3M agenezi sıklığı kadınlarda erkeklere göre yüksekti, ancak cinsiyetler arasında anlamlı bir fark yoktu (p=0.380). En az 3M eksikliği gözlenen grup, %22.1 prevalans oranıyla 15-22 yaş aralığındaydı. En sık üst sağ 3M dişinde agenezi izlendi (%16.7). Hastaların % 4.9'unda 3M’ların tamamı eksikti.
Sonuçlar: Popülasyon içindeki yaş grupları arasındaki farklı prevalans oranları, özellikle yeni nesilde görülen düşük oranlar, daha geniş kapsamlı yeni araştırmaların yapılması gerekliliğini doğurabilir.
