Impact of N-Acetylcysteine and EDTA as Final Irrigation Solutions on Push-Out Bond Strength of two endodontic sealers: An In Vitro study

Abstract

Aim This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effects of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) and Ethylene Diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as final irrigation solutions on the push-out bond strength of AH Plus and BioRoot RCS. Methods Ninety-two extracted single-rooted mandibular premolar teeth were prepared and divided into two groups (n = 46) at random according to the final irrigant (20% NAC or 17% EDTA). Four subgroups emerged by further dividing each group (n = 23) based on sealer employed (AH Plus or BioRoot RCS). The single-cone method was employed to obturate the canals, which were then kept for fifteen days. A Universal Testing Machine was employed for evaluating the push-out bond strength at coronal, middle, and apical thirds. Three-way mixed-model Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilized for assessing the data at a 5% significance level. Results AH Plus exhibited higher bond strength with EDTA, whereas BioRoot RCS performed better with NAC in coronal and middle zones (P < 0.0001). Conclusion EDTA optimizes AH Plus adhesion, while NAC enhances BioRoot RCS sealer performance, suggesting NAC as a potential alternative irrigant for improved sealer bonding.
