Abstract

Evaluation of usability of YouTube videos about diastema closure in patient information and student education
ABSTRACT
Objectives: Our study aims to evaluate the usability of diastema closure applications found on YouTube for patient and student education.
Materials and Methods: On April 4, 2023, a search was performed on YouTube using the search term "Diastema Closure." Of the first 350 videos recorded, only 105 were included in the research. The following were recorded for each video: views, likes, dislikes, length in seconds, month since upload, category, and features such as source of upload. The quality of the videos was evaluated and analyzed using the following tools: Global Quality Score (GQS), Usefulness Score (US), and The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) scores.
Results: A positive correlation was found between the number of video views and likes, as well as between video upload time and the JAMA score. The mean Quality score values are 2 for GQS and JAMA, and 0 for Usefulness. There is a moderate, positive, and statistically significant correlation between the GQS and usefulness scores (r=0.617, p<0.001).
Conclusions: YouTube videos of the diastema closure procedure were deemed insufficient for educating students and patients.
Keywords: Diastema closure, Medical education, Social media, YouTube
Kaydedilen ilk 350 videodan yalnızca 105'i araştırmaya dahil edildi.
