Various Approaches for Odontoma Treatment and Follow-Up Outcomes Over 2–25 Years: A Series of Six Case Reports

Abstract

Odontomas are benign odontogenic tumors composed of dental tissues, including enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulp. They are often asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally during routine radiographic examinations. However, in some cases, they may present with symptoms such as pain, paresthesia, and abnormalities in tooth positioning. Odontomas are categorized into two primary types: compound and complex. Surgical excision remains the standard treatment approach. In this case series, odontomas were diagnosed and treated in six patients spanning different age groups. Histopathological analysis confirmed two cases of compound odontoma and four cases of complex odontoma. No recurrence was noted during long-term follow-up. Our findings underscore that odontomas can be effectively managed through surgical excision performed under general or local anesthesia. Additionally, a multidisciplinary approach enables treatment without requiring the extraction of associated teeth.
