Mukogingival Cerrahi Tedavi Uygulanacak Hastalarda Farkındalığın Dental Anksiyete Düzeyine Etkisi

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 1 - 9, 31.12.2022

Abstract

The Effect Of Awareness On The Level Of Dental Anxiety In Patients To Be Applied Mucogingival Surgery

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 1 - 9, 31.12.2022

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional state felt before actually encountering threatening stimuli. Fear and anxiety towards the dentist and dental treatment is an important factor that can lead to avoidance of treatment. It was thought that awareness of treatment, operation or disease may also affect the level of anxiety. The aim of this study is to evaluate the pre-operational anxiety of the patients who will undergo mucogingival surgical treatment and to evaluate the effect of periodontal disease awareness on the anxiety level. 100 participants aged 18-65 years were included in this cross-sectional study. A questionnaire consisting of 2 parts, evaluating awareness and anxiety, was distributed to the volunteers. Student's-t test was used for statistical analysis. The average dental anxiety score of patients with awareness’s 10.83. The average dental anxiety score of patients who don’t have awareness is 11.71. There’s no statistically significant difference between dental anxiety values according to periodontal awareness(p:0.419). More than half of the patients included in the study are aware of periodontal disease. Although it’s higher in those with awareness, the most common complaint is gingival/tooth sensitivity. Dental anxiety was found to be proportionally higher in patients who didn’t have periodontal awareness. It’s thought that more effective results can be achieved in studies with larger sample sizes and with increased awareness.
