Periodontoloji Kliniğine Başvuran Hastalarının Mevcut Periodontal Durumlarının Risk Faktörleri ile İlişkisinin Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 1 - 11, 29.08.2022

Abstract

Evaluation of the Relationship Existing Periodontal Condition With Risk Factors of the Patients Visiting Periodontology Clinic

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 1 - 11, 29.08.2022

Abstract

The aim of our study was to determine the demographic data, periodontal condition (PC), various risk factors of patients who applied to the periodontology clinic, and to evaluate the relationship between PC with these factors. In this study, 1758 patients (941 female/817 male), who applied to the periodontology clinic between 2016-2018 were included. Patients included in the study; demographic data (age, gender, educational status), PC, systemic disease, frequency of toothbrushing, dental flossing usage, visit to the dentist, and smoking were evaluated. All the data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS (ver.20) software. It was determined that 28.2% of the patients had healthy (clinical gingival health on an intact or a reduced periodontium), 46.4% had gingivitis, 22.6% had stage 1-2 and 2.8% had stage 3-4 periodontitis. 33.9% of the participants had never visited a dentist. While most of the participants (91.2%) did not use dental floss, the rate of those who toothbrushing twice aday was 71.7%. While 48% of smokers were gingivitis patients, 26.7% were stage 1-2 periodontitis patients. There was a statistically significant relationship between PC and visited the dentist, PC and dental flossing, PC and gender (p<0.05). Periodontitis were more common among male. While the most common systemic disease was hypertension in gingivitis and the stage 1-2 periodontitis patients, most of the stage 3-4 periodontitis patients (85.7%) were systemically healthy. Within the limits of this study, it was seen that periodontal disease is a public health problem. Therefore, more epidemiological studies are needed in the future.
