A Bibliometric Analysis of Endodontic Researches in Turkish database "TRDIZIN"

Abstract

Objective: Bibliometric analysis is essential type of evaluation method of published articles, authors, journals, publishing institutions and revealing the scientific effectiveness of countries. Although bibliometric research is carried out within ULAKBİM in Turkey, TRDİZİN assessment regarding endodontics has not been reported. This study aimed to present numerical analysis of the data by determining the research trends in endodontics scanned in Turkish database "TRDİZİN". Methods: "Endodontics" and "root canal treatment" keywords were searched in both Turkish and English. All publications directly related to the field of endodontics in TRDİZİN database were analyzed. Publications that were not directly related to endodontics and letters to the editor were excluded from the study. Title of the publications, first author, institution, city, country, number of authors, journal, number of citations, type of study were recorded. Results: Duplications and off-topic studies were excluded from 1077 publications covering the years 1995-2021(March). The included publications were prepared in three languages, mainly in Turkish. Turkey, which is the most published country, is followed by Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. While Ankara has the most publications numerically, Istanbul ranks second. Compared to other years, most articles were published in 2018. Although most of the studies have not financial from scientific institutions, it has been observed that citation rates of publications scanned in national database are low compared to international database articles. Conclusions: The present analysis reveals the increasing research trend of endodontics in Turkey. However, it emphasizes the need to increase the national and international impact of the articles indexed in the Turkish database.

Türk Veritabanı “TRDİZİN”de Taranan Endodonti Araştırmalarının Bibliyometrik Analizi

Abstract

Amaç: Bibliyometrik analizler; basılmış makalelerin, yazarların, dergilerin, yayın sahibi kurumların araştırılmasında ve ülkelerin bilimsel etkinliğinin ortaya konmasında önemli bir analiz tipidir. ULAKBİM bünyesinde bibliyometrik araştırmalar yürütülmekle beraber, endodonti alanı ile ilgili TRDİZİN indeks değerlendirmesi şu ana kadar bildirilmemiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Türk veritabanı “TRDİZİN”de taranan endodonti alanında çalışma trendlerinin belirlenerek verilerin sayısal analizini sunmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntem: “Endodonti” ve “kök kanal tedavisi” anahtar kelimeleri Türkçe ve İngilizce olarak aratılarak TRDİZİN veritabanında ulaşılan endodonti alanını direk ilgilendiren bütün yayınlar analiz edildi. Editöre mektup ve endodonti ile direk olarak bağlantısı bulunmayan yayınlar çalışma dışı bırakıldı. Yayınların başlığı, ilk yazar, kurum, şehir, ülke, yazar sayısı, dergi, atıf sayısı, çalışma tipi ve kaydedildi. Bulgular: Toplamda ulaşılan 1995-2021(Mart) yıllarını kapsayan 1077 yayından dublikasyonlar ve alan dışı çalışmalar çıkarılmıştır. Dahil edilen yayınlar en fazla Türkçe olmak üzere üç dilde yapılmıştır. En fazla yayın gönderen ülke olan Türkiye’yi Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti takip etmektedir. Ankara ili en çok yayına sahipken İstanbul ikinci sırada yer almaktadır. Diğer yıllara göre karşılaştırıldığında en fazla yayın 2018 yılında yapılmıştır. Çalışmaların büyük çoğunluğu özgün araştırma makalesi olmakla beraber sadece ulusal veritabanında taranan yayınların uluslararası veritabanında da taranan makalelere göre atıf oranlarının düşük olduğu gözlenmiştir. Sonuç: Bu analiz, Türkiye'de endodonti alanında artan araştırma eğilimini ortaya koymaktadır. Bununla birlikte, Türk veritabanında dizinlenen makalelerin ulusal ve uluslararası etkisinin yükseltilmesi ihtiyacını vurgulamaktadır.
