Avülsiyon Yaralanmalarının Acil Müdahalesinde Hasta Bilgi Kaynağı Olarak Türkçe YouTube™ Videolarının Güvenilirliği: Kesitsel İçerik Analizi

Abstract

Reliability of Turkish YouTube™ Videos as a Source of Patient Information in the Emergency Management of Avulsion Injuries: A Cross-Sectional Content Analysis

Year 2023, Volume: 10 Issue: 3, 583 - 589, 25.12.2023

Abstract

Background: To evaluate the content and quality of Turkish YouTube™ videos as a source of patient information in the emergency intervention of avulsion.
Methods:The key words 'avulsion, dental trauma, dental injuries and tooth dislocation' were used to evaluate the YouTube™ videos. Videos were rigorously reviewed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The content of the selected videos was scored with a usefulness score of 9 points according to there commendations for avulsion injuries in the latest treatment guidelines of the International Association of Dental Traumatology. According to the usefulness score, video content was divided into threegroups: poor (0-3), moderate (4-6) and excellent (7-9). The quality of thevideos was assessed using the Global Quality Scale (GQS), which rates the overall quality of the videos. The reliability of the videos was scored according to the DISCERN reliability tool. Statistical analyses were performed.
Results: A total of 240 videos were analyzed and 33 videos that met the inclusion criteria were included. The most common source of video uploads was private clinics/private hospitals (36.4 %, n=12), but most of the videos uploaded by these organizations had poor content (66.7 %, n=8). According to the usefulness score of the videos, 45.5 % were classified as poor, 30.3 % as fair and 24.2% as excellent.
Conclusion:YouTube™ generally hosts videos with low usefulness with regard to the management of avulsed teeth. Therefore, dentists should be aware of this resource and warn parents/carers regarding the reliability of information and the misleading content which is available on YouTube™ videos.
