Abstract

Determination of Canine Transposition and Transmigration Frequency

Year 2021, Volume: 12 Issue: 3, 395 - 401, 25.12.2021

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the frequency of canine transmigration and transpositon in a subgroup of Turkish population.

Material - Method: The panoramic radiograph [PR] of patients, aged 18-35 years ,who received a PR for various reasons at the Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Dentistry Dentomaxillofacial Radiology clinic between January 2017 and December 2017 were retrospectively examined in terms of canine transposition and transmigration. Patients’ demographic data including age, gender, presence of the syndrome, the presence of transposed and transmigrant canine teeth, their number, location, unilateral or bilateral status, related pathologies and the positions in defined classifications were evaluated.
Results: PR of 15511 patients were examined and 26 transposed canine in 24 [% 0.15] patients and 32 transmigrant canine in 31 [% 0.19] patients were detected. Both anomalies were generally seen unilaterally. Canine transposition were mostly observed in maxilla [%76.98] and females[% 65.38] whereas transmigration in mandible [% 59.38] and males[%53.12]. Maxillary canine- lateral transposition[ % 42.31] was the most seen transposition type. With the equal percentage of % 31.57 type 1 and 2 transmigration were the most seen types.
Conclusion: Canine transposition and transmigration are a rare entity. In order to prevent the symptoms that may arise from these teeth, detailed clinical and specially radiographic examination and patient follow up is so important.
