HEMŞİRELİK ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN SOSYAL MEDYA BAĞIMLILIK DURUMU VE GELİŞMELERİ KAÇIRMA KORKUSUNUN İNCELENMESİ

Year 2019, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 27 - 36, 26.04.2019

Abstract

INVESTIGATION OF NURSING STUDENTS'S SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION AND FEAR OF MISSING OUT

Year 2019, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 27 - 36, 26.04.2019

Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the
social media addiction, fear of missing out status of nursing students.

Methods: The population of the study consisted of
students studying in a nursing department of a foundation university in Ankara
(N=241). The sample is not selected, it is aimed to reach the nursing
department students studying in the 2018-2019 academic year. The study sample comprised 216
students who agreed to participate in the research. The data were collected
with the “Social Media Addiction Scale/SMAS”, “Fear of Missing out Scale/FOMO”
and “Information Form”. The data were evaluated by coding in SPSS 18 package
program.

Results: SMAS mean score of students was 95.14± 27.39,
sub scale scores were occupational 35.48±10.22, mood regulation 13.69±5.32,
reccurence 10.50±4.68, conflict 35.46±12.64. FOMO mean score of students was
27.61±7.93. SMAS was positively correlated with FOMO. It was found that the
daily social media usage period and the frequency of controlling the mobile
phone were related with the scores obtained from SMAS and FOMO.

Conclusion: It was found that most of nursing students
were social media addicted. Social media addiction was statistically and
positively correlated with fear of missing out.
