Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the awareness and knowledge of patients in a Turkish subpopulation about dental implant treatment. Method: The multiple-choice standardized questionnaire was applied to patients older than 18 years of age who applied to oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics of Mersin University, Adıyaman University and Aydın Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Dentistry for any reason. The data were analysed with the SPSS program. Results: Out of 1354 participants, 1215 complete the survey. 599 of 1215 patients were male (49.3%) and 616 of them were female (50.7%). The majority of the participants were between the ages of 20-30 (34%) and most had university (43.5%) education levels. Only 60.5% of the participants were aware of dental implant treatment The source of information for the vast majority of these participants was dentists. Only 39.1% of the participants stated that they would prefer dental implant treatment, when they were asked which treatment they would prefer for their missing teeth. 6.9% of the participants believed that the dental implant would prevent MRI, 4% would prevent tomography and 7.7% would beep when passing through metal detector. Conclusion: This study showed that the level of awareness about dental implant treatment has increased in Turkish society, but it is still limited and detailed information is lacking. Therefore, more organized training programs are needed to correct misinformation and provide more information about dental implant treatment.

Hastaların dental implantlara bakış açısının değerlendirilmesi

Year 2021, Volume: 14 Issue: 2, 232 - 241, 25.08.2021

Abstract

Bulgular: 1354 katılımcıdan 1215’i anketi tamamladı.
