Bulk Fill Kompozitlerde Son Kullanma Tarihinin Renk Stabilitesine Etkisinin Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2024, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 9 - 17, 01.03.2024

Abstract

EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF EXPIRATION DATE ON COLOR STABILITY IN BULKFILL COMPOSITES

Year 2024, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 9 - 17, 01.03.2024

Abstract

The proper storage of many restorative materials is vital to maintain their optimal properties and maximize shelf life in dentistry. This study evaluated the color stability of expired- and nonexpired-bulkfill composites in different thicknesses.
Two microhybrid bulkfill composites in different shades were used in this study: SDR-Plus bulkfill (A2) and SDR-Plus bulkfill (Universal). Composite discs of 1, 2, 3 mm thicknesses were prepared from expired and nonexpired bulkfill composites. The prepared samples were divided into 5 subgroups (n = 5) consisting of four different coloring solutions (coffee, black tea, red wine and moringa tea) and a control group (distilled water). Initial and final color assessments were conducted using macro photographs with a cross-polarization filter. The data were statistically analyzed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD multiple comparisons tests.
According to the results, expired-composites presented significant color changes compared to nonexpired-composites (p<0.05). 3 mm samples presented significantly higher ∆E00 values than the samples in 1-and 2 mm thicknesses (p<0.05). No statistical differences were observed between samples in 1-and 2 mm thicknesses (p≥0.05). A2 shade group showed significantly higher ∆E00 values compared to universal shade group (p<0.05). In terms of coloring solutions, significantly the highest ∆E00 values were detected for red wine, and it was followed respectively by coffee, black tea, and moringa tea. No statistical difference was found between black tea and moringa tea for the samples in all thicknesses (p≥0.05).
The expiration date of the restorative material is an extremely important factor in terms of color stability of composites. Red wine was determined to be the most effective solution, followed by coffee and tea, respectively. In bulkfill applications, the coloration level increases as the layer thickness increases, such as 3 mm. Dark colored composites with large amounts of color pigments may have less color stability than light colored ones.
