Investigation of Color Selection Criteria Determined by Dentists in Different Titles and Study Centers

Abstract

Aim: Color selection is an important factor in dentistry in terms of aesthetics and natural appearance. However, different dentists and practice centers may have different approaches to color selection processes. The aim of this study is to investigate how color selection criteria in prosthetic treatments are determined by dentists with different titles in different work centers.
Material and Methods: The study obtained approval from the Clinical Research Ethics Committee of Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry (2019/44) and was conducted in September 2019 as a voluntary survey among academics and dentists nationwide. The study consisted of a total of 14 questions, two of which were demographic data and 12 were multiple-choice questions.
Results: The study was completed with a total of 437 participants, including 213 males and 224 females. The participants had an average age of 30.6, and 50.6% of them worked in university hospitals. The remaining participants worked in oral and dental health centers, community health centers, state hospitals, private clinics owned by themselves, or private clinics owned by another dentist. In addition, 43.7% were general practitioners, 27.7% were dental students, 17.8% were research assistants, 7.8% were specialist dentists, and 3% were faculty members. The data were evaluated using SPSS 22 (statistical package for the sciences version 22.0) program. The chi-square test was used to evaluate categorical data. Statistical analysis was performed and interpreted for the study data (p <0.05).
Conclusion: It was observed that dentists do not have a standardized approach when selecting color for prosthetic dental treatments. Due to the increasing aesthetic expectations, it is believed that a standardized protocol should be developed to determine the correct color and enhance treatment success.

For the study, an approval report (2019/44) was received from Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry Clinical Research Ethics Committee and the research was started.

Farklı Ünvan ve Çalışma Merkezlerindeki Diş Hekimleri Tarafından Belirlenen Renk Seçim Kriterlerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Diş hekimliğinde renk seçimi estetik ve doğal görünüm açısından önemli bir faktördür. Ancak farklı diş hekimleri ve muayenehanelerin renk seçimi süreçlerine farklı yaklaşımları olabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı iş merkezlerinde farklı unvanlara sahip diş hekimleri tarafından protez tedavilerinde renk seçim kriterlerinin nasıl belirlendiğini araştırmaktır.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma, Dicle Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Klinik Araştırmalar Etik Kurulu'ndan (2019/44) onay alınarak Eylül 2019'da ülke çapındaki akademisyenler ve diş hekimleri arasında gönüllü bir anket olarak gerçekleştirildi. Araştırma, ikisi demografik veri, 12'si çoktan seçmeli olmak üzere toplam 14 sorudan oluşmuştur.
Bulgular: Araştırma 213'ü erkek, 224'ü kadın olmak üzere toplam 437 katılımcıyla tamamlandı. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 30,6 olup %50,6'sı üniversite hastanelerinde çalışmaktadır. Geriye kalan katılımcılar ağız ve diş sağlığı merkezlerinde, toplum sağlığı merkezlerinde, devlet hastanelerinde, kendilerine ait özel kliniklerde veya başka bir diş hekimine ait özel kliniklerde çalışmaktaydı. Ayrıca yüzde 43,7'si pratisyen hekim, yüzde 27,7'si diş hekimliği öğrencisi, yüzde 17,8'i araştırma görevlisi, yüzde 7,8'i uzman diş hekimi ve yüzde 3'ü öğretim üyesiydi. Veriler SPSS 22 (bilimler için istatistik paketi versiyon 22.0) programı kullanılarak değerlendirildi. Kategorik verilerin değerlendirilmesinde ki-kare testi kullanıldı. Çalışma verileri için istatistiksel analiz yapıldı ve yorumlandı (p<0,05).
Sonuç: Protez diş tedavilerinde diş hekimlerinin renk seçiminde standart bir yaklaşıma sahip olmadıkları görülmüştür. Artan estetik beklentiler nedeniyle doğru rengin belirlenmesi ve tedavi başarısının artırılması için standart bir protokolün geliştirilmesi gerektiğine inanılmaktadır.
