The Effect of Single/Double Application of Universal Adhesive on Bond Strength

Year 2020, Volume: 47 Issue: 1-3, 81 - 88, 31.12.2020

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of two layers of universal adhesive agent on the bond strength of compomer on primary tooth dentin. Materials and Methods: 20 caries-free primary molars were used in the study. Occlusal surfaces of the teeth were cut to expose a flat dentin surface and abraded with wet 600 grit silicon carbide paper to obtain a smear layer. The universal adhesive agent (Prime & Bond Universal, Dentsply Sirona, New York, USA) was applied to the samples by two different methods: Group 1) The adhesive agent was applied in a single coat, air-diluted and light cured; Group 2) Adhesive agent applied in two layers, diluted with air and light cured on each layer. Subsequently, compomer (Dyract XP, Dentsply Sirona, New York, USA) restorations were made to both groups. All samples were subjected to 500 thermal cycles and then sectioned for microtensile testing. Two sections from each tooth were obtained so that there were 20 samples in each group. The testing was conducted using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min (Micro Tensile Tester, T-61010Ki, Bisco, Schaumburg, USA). Failure modes were determined under a stereomicroscope. Results were analyzed using the t-test and chi-square analysis. Results: Average microtensile bonding values for Groups 1 and 2 are 12.0±5.8 and 16.7±7.4 MPa, respectively. Higher MPa values were observed as a result of applying two layers of universal adhesive, and the difference between the two groups was found to be statistically significant (p <0.05). While mixed type fractures covering both dentine and adhesive surface were observed more in Group 2 (60%), adhesive type fracture between the restorative material and tooth tissue was observed more in Group 1 (70%). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Increasing the number of layers of the universal adhesive used in compomer restorations applied to primary teeth showed an increasing effect on the bond strength.

UNİVERSAL ADEZİVİN TEK/ÇİFT KAT UYGULANMASININ BAĞLANMA DAYANIMI ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

Year 2020, Volume: 47 Issue: 1-3, 81 - 88, 31.12.2020

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, bir universal adeziv ajanın tek/iki kat uygulanmasının kompomerin süt dişi dentinine bağlanma dayanımı üzerine olan etkisini değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada 20 adet çürüksüz süt molar diş kullanılmıştır. Dişlerin okluzal yüzeyleri düz bir dentin yüzeyi elde etmek amacıyla kesilmiş ve ardından smear tabakası elde etmek amacıyla 600 gritlik silikon karbid zımpara ile aşındırılmıştır. Örneklere, universal adeziv ajan (Prime & Bond Universal, Dentsply Sirona, New York, ABD) iki farklı yöntemle uygulanmıştır: Grup 1) Adeziv ajan tek kat uygulanmış, hava ile inceltilmiş ve ışıkla polimerize edilmiştir; Grup 2) Adeziv ajan iki kat uygulanmış, her katta hava ile inceltilmiş ve ışıkla polimerize edilmiştir. Ardından, her iki gruba da kompomer (Dyract XP, Dentsply Sirona, New York, ABD) restorasyonlar yapılmıştır. Her dişten 2 kesit elde edilmiş böylece her grupta 20 adet örnek olması sağlanmıştır.
